Artificial intelligence at Croatiapp

In short

  • The Profesorica, Ivona, Pablo, Fabián and Martín are characters. When they chat with you or correct you on the spot, the answer comes from artificial intelligence.
  • We write the lesson videos ourselves; the characters' voices are AI-generated.
  • AI can get things wrong. It's a practice aid, not a human teacher or an official translator.
  • We don't train models on what you write.

This summary helps you find your way around; it doesn't replace the full text.

1. You're talking to an AI

Under art. 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the AI Act), you have the right to know when you are interacting with an AI system. At Croatiapp, the following are artificial intelligence:

  • The Profesorica in the chat (the button with her face, ⌘I): a language model answers, using the context of the lesson you're watching.
  • Analyse a sentence with Fabián: the grammatical analysis of a sentence you type.
  • The level diagnosis and the analysis of your games and exams.
  • The final exam Tribunal: the assessment, the exam record and the examiners' letter.
  • Generated exercises and notebooks (“Generate exercises”, “Generate notebook”, “Routine from a text”).
  • Analysis of images you upload (reading the text in a photo).

Each of these features says so on screen. What is not real-time AI: the videos, the illustrated plates, the book, the cards, the course exercises and the dictionary, which we write and review ourselves. The translator uses machine translation (Google and MyMemory).

2. AI-generated or AI-manipulated content

  • The voices of the Profesorica, Ivona, Pablo, Fabián and Martín in the videos are AI-generated (ElevenLabs) from scripts we wrote. They are fictional characters: they don't imitate real people without their permission.
  • Some of the illustrations, cards and comics were made with AI tools, then reviewed and edited by us.
  • Answers, analyses, exercises and notebooks generated by AI carry a visible label and a technical marker in the data showing that they are generated content.

3. What the AI can and can't do

  • It can get things wrong: explain a rule badly, make up an example or over-correct. If in doubt, trust the course and the dictionary.
  • It isn't a human teacher, a sworn translator or an official language certification.
  • Don't use it for medical, legal or financial decisions, or to translate official documents.
  • The marks and the level it estimates are for guidance only: they don't block your access to anything and have no effect outside the Academy.

4. What data it uses

To answer you, the AI receives your message and the minimum context it needs (the lesson, the second of the video, the subtitle line, and your results if you ask for an analysis). The models are run by Groq and Cerebras (USA), through our API and a server run by Croatiapp. We don't use your data to train models. Full details are in the Privacy policy.

5. What it costs

AI features are paid for with kunas: the cost is shown before you use them (currently one kuna per request; two to retake the final exam). If a request fails because of a problem on our side, we give you the kunas back. The conditions are in the Terms and conditions.

6. Ask a person to review it

If an answer, a correction or an assessment seems wrong or unfair, email us at hey@croatiapp.app with the link or a screenshot: someone on our team will review it and, if the AI got it wrong, we'll give you your kunas back.
